My how far we've come.......

We stand 10 months later with a project that is approaching its completeness, and looking back on the production that was, its amazing how so many stories can be told about 10 little tunes. I write to you the day following my last day of recording in the studio at 6mediaAV. On Tuesday night I recorded the final vocal track for a tune called “These Dreams”. It didn’t sink in as I was driving to the studio that is was the last performance I had to give on my new record, but as I drove home it had me thinking of how far this project has come.

It took a lot of going broke, or more than broke and selling anything I owned that was worth a damn to get this far in the recording process. It also entailed a lot of beating myself up over performances in true nit picking fashion. I now believe every choice musically we have made so far has been the right one and we cut no corners in production, that is why it has taken so long to record, that is the price you pay for quality. There are still a few bridges to cross before we have a finished physical cd to release, but the major checkpoint has been reached. I think I could write a book about how to finance the recording of an album with absolutely no money but I fear I’d be dooming too many souls to bad habits, so I’ll spare you my beg, borrow, and steal approach to music production. The only thing I will say and I know how corny it sounds but if it means that much to you, you will find a way to get it done and get it done right.

Dennis Carroll is in the studio today mixing a bear of a song known as “Casual” which is making a case for the first single, we will have to see which tune prevails next month. I heard the first pass yesterday of “casual” and was wow’d by how good it sounded, (oh did I mention there may be some horn tooting here?) and I can’t say enough about how fun it is when Mike Null busts into his solo in the last chorus!

We have two more great guest musicians coming in on a couple tracks this week which is always a good time. We have had such amazing contributions already from so many great players, but those thank yous deserve I their very own post.

Brian Packer (Chad Perrone Band) added a  powerful solo in “These Dreams” and Holland Dieringer of Fly Upright Kite will be adding a sweet lead violin piece Thursday night on “Sunrise on the East Coast” which I recorded vocals to on Monday.

So it all boils down to the record being completely done on Friday! As long as all goes according to plan we should have a single to release by mid-September!

There are many other things I could add to this blog post but I think I will end this wall of text and send out another episode later this week, so stay tuned!
